Although i don't agree with many of the practices that are and have always occurred in the music business, artists should really deal with their business in a professional manner. If you know you are dealing with any kind of business, rule one is get a lawyer to read over the contracts and make sure that everything is good. So to me its buyer beware...read before you sign.
Besides that, everyone should remember industry rule #4080: record company people are shady!

Thats the whole point. Its business. they (The Lox) know what they were signing. If you sign a contract without reading it, then you are a fool; I dont care if the contract is for Rent-a-Center or a million dollar record deal.
Some viewers may be looking for at this in an emotional level not a business level. Artists have been getting "raped" by the record industry for years. Why is it now that people are looking at it like its wrong. Its always been wrong.
People talk crap about Koch, like its not a real label, blah blah blah...the Reality is is that Koch offers the best all around deals with the artists..that's a record label where mutually the label and the artists can get what they deserve.
I dont mean to be long winded, but I just hate to read things that are more of a "eff" this dude because he jerked someone else.
And of course puff got more money than the lox. he owns the label. You dont think that because you work at McDonalds you should be getting paid the same as the owner do you?

be real its business. The Lox are gonna have to pay for their publishing or put out 2 or 3 more records like stated in the contract. go to court and sort it out...throw out two albums in two years and get out that publishing deal.

The lox are playin themsleves. It aint puff's fault they aint getting no money. If they would stick the script and make hot records the change that puff is getting wouldn't even be noticed. and three more albums, please they got like a thousand mixtapes out. give that to puff and finish your obligation to the deal. Thats why i respect fifty so much because he is making great business deals. there is no rap label in the industry that has done the numbers g unit has in the last two years. so go figure. the lox need to stop fightin and start writing.

Bottomline is that alot of artists in Hip Hop are stupid.......Puff asked Angie Martinez what her publishing was and she didn't know....that right there shows how ignorant most of these rapper/industry people are. Puff has a point, read and follow up on your paperwork.....

All of it seems confusing to me. How is it that The Lox got a contract that says 50/50 and Puffy has a 80/20 contract? Why the hell would The Lox sign a deal that requires them to put out 5 more albums under Bad Boy before they can get their publishing back if the plan was to leave Bad Boy? As for Ms. Wallace and Cease, yeah, Cease shouldn't be talking, but Ms. Wallace is probably getting so much money that she doesn't care that much about the publishing split. There are still a lot of facts that are missing and/or misconstrued. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
