Who is Your Top 5 MCees Ever?

By R.Motions

Ok, well I have been reading the comments posted on our reviews and such, and decided that I had to put my 2 cents in on this situation.

I was reading the review of the J.D. Crap...yea I said it CRAP and was reading the comments posted by J Prince on how he thought we at HHH were biased on east coast music.

It just seems to me that the bullshit east coast joints that nobody else listens to excpet niggas on the east coast get a pass. My example is AZ's sorry album. Yall gave that shit a 4 meanwhile yall gave that Boyz in the Hood joint a terrible rating? - J Prince

First, I think that the Boyz in the Hood Album is hot carl as dirty likes to say. I dont care how many songs jeezy was on the album is crap. In the words of Samuel Jackson in Juice "Just because you pour syrup on sh*t; Don't make it pancakes"

So this takes me to what this news blurb is all about. J Prince wrote that we dont talk about TuPac and how he thinks he is the greatest ever. So I got to thinking. I wonder what peoples top 5 MCees of all time would be.

So post your comments with your Top 5 MCees ever.

Ill start this up.

R.Motions Top 5 MCees EVER

1. Jay Z -
(Although people will argue this one to death, I believe that no other MCee with the exception of Tupac has changed the face of hiphop culture like Jay Z has.)

2. Biggie -
(With 2 albums, he managed to become the King of NY [yea i know...he has more than 2, but i dont count those other albums, cause he was already dead - R.I.P])

3. TuPac-
(It took me a long time to come to realize what a genius this man really was. Dirty would play Pac all day at SU, and i would be like...fudduck outta here with that BS. But after I heard that "The Don Killuminati" album, I was an instant fan and had to run back and cop some older stuff that Dirty was playing.)

3. Big Pun-
(What can i say about this man. First off R.I.P fam. I had the honor of knowing him and an honored to have known him. This Latin Rhyme animal put Latinos in a new place in hip-hop...i know i know...we always had latinos in Hip-Hop, but nobody brought that fire like Pun.)

3. Cam'Ron-
(Hate him or Love him, I think that Cam has been so consistant with progressing his skills that he has entered my top 5 mcees of all time. Even when you are thinking to yourself...oh lord this beat is horrible, or he a clown, You cannot under estimate the sense of pure lyrics that he spits.)

ha ...i know you are all mad at my 5th pick...so what....its my list....some of you are probably like...where is Nas, Common, KRS, Rakim....the truth is, that i dont want to get into all that right now..i would be typing for days...and truthfully...im tired of typing right now...

so just throw up your Top 5 picks and lets get this discussion rolling...

    2) Jay

    3) Nas

    4) G Rap

    5) Kanye West (He's new, but late registration proved to me that this dude gon' stick around for a while. He's a Hiphop preacher and his sermons speak to all of our lives.)

Just because a rapper changes the face of rap doesn't make him a dope MC. 50 Cent, for example, has wacker lyrics than most rappers out there. He did change the face of the game, though.

    My top 5:

1)Rakim (because heads are STILL quoting his old shit, and he's still dropping fire)
2)B.I.G. (because Biggie Biggie Smalls is the illest)
3)Nas (because illmatic was illmatic and his post-Oochie Wally shit has been tight)
4)Pharoahe Monch (His solo wasn't a classic, but it did have some classic tracks. His flow is one of the nicest in hip hop, and the Organized Konfusion albums were all sick)
5)Black Thought (His lyrics are often overshadowed by the fact that there's a live band, but he can definitely hold his own with these other cats. And Illadelph Halflife is a classic)

Other cats that deserve to be up here: KRS, Kool G, Common, Mos

1)BIG HOMIE aka El Presidente aka Jay Z (as much as I hate the dude he is the greatest to ever do it)

    2) KRS-1 (dont forget where this mc thing started not rapper but mc)

    3) trugoy (de la soul dummies)

    4) Fox boogie aka foxy brown (she is the truth, the only chick that i respect in the game) p.s. jay may have gotten all the credit but she wrote the ryhmes

    5) Buju Banton (it is a different form of spitting but as a mc buju has to be one of the greats)

Some of u may wonder where the hell did i come up with my picks, but this is based on lyrical content and the ability to spit and captivate any listner. Not how many albums they sold or who got the most paper. Just good ole ryhming.

    1) 2pac - as is evidenced by his posthuomous material, this guy's vocals are so dope they're still relevant today. Not to mention the ridiculous number of people who have bitten or been influenced by him - The entire Ruff Ryders camp (you never HEARD the term "ride" until he said it on wax outside of Cali, nor did you know what it meant), Jay-Z, Biggie, 50 and G-Unit, Ja Rule, LL, etc.The guy changed the game in so many ways, it's too much to write here.

    2) Rakim - come on.If you don't put the god Rakim Allah in your top 5, I can't even respect you. And Pac influenced the MODERN era after '95 - he influenced EVERY rapper, whether they realize where they got stuff from or not...

    3) KRS-One - like somebody said, let's not forget where this true MC sh*t came from.

    4) Biggie - for his short time on the earth, dude was incredible. 2nd only to Pac in terms of the biting and influence in recent history.

    5) Jay-Z - come on, man. How can you not put him in? Living Legend...

    Honorable mentions:

LL, Nas, Kool G. Rap, Scarface, Ice Cube, Slick Rick, the mighty Mos Def, Eminem, Common, and Black Thought (props to the cat who mentioned him!).

    1. Pac - Without a doubt the greatest MC to have ever lived.

    2. Rakim - Dude was way ahead of his time. He should had came out now and maybe he would have been fully appreciated.

    3. Jay - Jay was a lyrical nightmare. but I have to say Nas still ate that ass up on ether.

    4. Biggie - Dude was a beast, could spit 16 against anybody except Pac ouf course!

    5. Yukmouth - One of the most underated MC's ever. His double was a hood classic and his verses are emaculate. Fif is my dude but Yuk and C-Bo hit him up on their Thuglords CD. Need to check that shit out.

    6. Fif - I gotta add one more to this category because he is a genuis. Sometimes saying to many words or trying to sound smart in your raps don't work. Simplicity is his key to his success.

Honorable mentions: KRS one (and I hate to put him in this group), Eminem,Scarface,Luda,Lloyd Banks, Rass Kass,Nas,Papoose.

Thanks for dedicating this section to me! How dare yall try and put me in the spot light cause I said AZ's shit was wack! I felt the same thing about AZ's bullshit that yall felt about Boyz in the Hood. Nobody from my area bumps that garbage. I guess I need to straiten yall out on what bias means. Here is the definition:A preference or an inclination, especially one that inhibits impartial judgment. BEING BIASED DOESN'T MEAN YOU DON'T LIKE OTHER MUSIC. I'm a black man who loves all people, but I'm completely biased when it comes to black folks. Being biased is a human emotion that everyone shares. The sooner you realize that the better your reviews will be. Yes, yall will give a bullshit joint like AZ a 4.5 cause yall think that is "real hip hop". That phrase is used to denegrate artist from other areas. Often it is said that this person is a "rapper" and this one is an "MC". MC just means move the croud and plenty of artist fit that bill cause they are able to move those crouds, but depending on what coast they reside they could get labled with that stigma easily. Yall should at least eb honest with yourselves and admit that niggas around your way don't bump Pastor Troy, Yukmouth, Lil Flip, Tech 9, etc... Same thing happens around here cause we don't bump AZ, Sheek Louch, j-hood, and the rest of dem cats. Keep it all the way real and don't say shit cause you want to appear in the middle!!!

    Prince, once again, you buggin'.

I pump EVERYTHING - Pastor Troy and D-Block included. Fact of the matter is this -

    - The Boyz N The Hood album was wack. Accept it.

    - Hip Hop started in NYC. Hate it or love it, all historical studies of the music back this.

    - You LOVE us - that's why you post something everyday.

    - And we love you too.

Stop trying to make this some type of regional beef. We've already established we all (you included) hold biases, but I'll swear by Ras Kass, Ice Cube, 2pac, Scarface, T.I., Common, or Bun B any day of the week - the same way i'll swear by AZ, Jay-Z, Rakim, Papoose, or Mos Def.

The biggest cats in Hip Hop are Puffy, Russell Simmons, Jay-Z, and 50 Cent. Where are they from? Hmmm....

WE love music from ALL regions. Please don't get it twisted.

Thanks for your comments. Wehave the best reviews on the 'net. We appreciate the feedback on this topic from everyone.

Again you've misunderstood my position. I understand yall feel a certain way about the Boyz in the Hood joint and that's cool! You definitely have the right cause its your show. I do like your website and your right that's why I post comments here!!! You may bump the artist I mentioned but again you didn't fully read my comment. I said niggas from your way don't bump them like that not you. You have to listen to all different types of music cause your a music critic. I grew up on the east coast and I had to damn near fight with niggas on a daily because of Pac. As you can see from my list I clearly love some niggas from NY. Shit, 5 out of the 6 niggas I put on there come from NY. But them niggas from NY are only on top because the west showed them how to profit from their trade. Common took offense to Cubes statement that the west coast showed yall how to pimp this rap shit and its true. I'm willing to admit that hip hop was crafted and some elements perfected in NY, that's why they have such a huge advantage over the game. Not to mention there is fifty million niggas in NY alone, so if you make it big there you don't really have to do much else. That is why Fif is so successful because he understood that you must appeal to both coast and down south. His first song on GRDT said "what up blood, what up cuz". He was paying tribute to them niggas. A lot of east coast cats don't do that. He also has Young Buck to attract that Southern audience. Don't forget that Death Row was killing the game and if not for Suge;s stupidity and Pac passing they would still be in that ass. I honestly ain trying to make this some regional beef! Again, take a long look at who I pay homage to in the game. I'm simply pointing out the facts and sometimes the truth hurts. Its better to admit there is that unwritten element to hip hop because it allows up to move forward. I won't comment on the bias anymore because I have much more to contribute and based on your comments from our dual on JD's review, you've admitted that it is a human emotion that we all share. Holla!!

    TOP 5
    N = Name, BS = Best song, Details = D.

    1.N. TuBig,
BS. Until the end of time/Big Poppa
    D. I think they had just about the same impact on rap music, but in different ways

    3.N. Jay-Z/Nas,
BS. Jigga My Nigga/Got urself a...
    D. Lyrical ability I give Nas the edge but Jay's Flow is unprecedented

    5.N.DMX/Eminem/Jadakiss/Fabolous,
    BS. Who We Be/The Way I am/Why
    D. I would put X and Em above kiss and Fab but I wanna back up kiss' claim of being in the top 5 dead or alive. I think he's on the same level as Fab both in flow and lyrics. EM might be more lyrically on point at the best of times than X but he also sings far more crap. For that reason I have them on the same level. ALso the fact that X is my fav. rapper is got sum to do with it.

I know that only a top five was asked for but I have to give a top ten of all time .

#1 TuPac Amaru Shakur. (No explanation needed.)
#2 Christopher Wallace. (Gave it to you not how you wanted it but how you needed it. And did it with only two albums).
#3 Shawn Carter. (For the last ten years had something for the whole family).
#4 Nasir Jones. (Lyrically on another level).
#5 Marshall Mathers. (Nobody in the rap game really want it with this man).
#6 Brad Jordan. (Real 'King of the South'. No disrespect to T.I.).
#7 Christopher Rios. (Held it down for an entire culture).
#8 Andre Benjamin & Antwan Patton. (Even though this is a group, these cats have always done there thing and have never been afraid to experiment).
#9 Earl Simmons. (Despite legal troubles, this cat started a movement).
    # 10 Dwight Grant. (This pick is like the N.B.A purely on potential).

No disrespect to Jason Phillips, Cam'ron Giles, Mason Betha, Kanye West, Lonnie Lynn, Clifford Harris, or Jay Jenkins.
