Hip-Hop Legends Launch Clothing Line

DJ Kool Herc recently introduced his new Sedgwick & Cedar clothing line at the Magic International Fashion Show, taking in two hundred national and ten international distribution orders.
The New York-based collection is a throwback to hip-hop's roots, with t-shirts, hoodies and track jackets featuring party posters and classic artwork from the culture's early years.

"Sedgwick & Cedar is a company that relates to the new movement in the market where consumers want special product that not only has outstanding design detail and graphics but has deep meaning," Sedgwick &Cedar CEO Ray Riccio told reporters.

Hip-Hop innovators such as Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz, Sha-rock and Busy Bee, who are featured throughout the line, performed near Sedgwick & Cedar's Magic booth. The live show, which featured hits like "The Message," "White Lines" and "Rapper's Delight," drew a crowd of onlookers. Kool Herc even took the mic to express the inspiration for the line.

All the commotion at the booth led to a successful sales forecast as well. Riccio says that they have already sold out March production and are, "adding extra shifts to fulfill retail demand anticipated for April."

In related news, the Smithsonian's National Musem of American History will be paying homage to hip-hop culture with a new exhibit. Entitled "Hip-Hop Won't Stop: The Beat, The Rhymes, The Life," the forthcoming exhibit will mark the first hip-hop national collecting initiative by the storied institution.
