Mos Def and wife ordered to settle divorce out of court
By: Yves Erwin Salomon
Rapper and actor Mos Def has been involved in an ongoing divorce battle with his wife of 10 years, Maria Yepes-Smith. The New York Post reports that on Wednesday (June 28th), Justice Sarah Krauss told the rapper and his soon-to-be ex-wife, "Work it out, right now. I have 50 cases here."
The couple have been in and out of court over the matter -- including Valentine's Day of this year, when they were battling over child support for the couple's two children. Per a temporary agreement, Mos Def was supposed to pay $10,000 a month in child support but the rapper had only been paying $8,000.
In related news, Mos Def is still working on a new album tentatively titled The Undeniable Free Now Black: Volume Zero. The set will be the rapper's last release under his current deal with Geffen Records, but he isn't rushing into any new deals. The rapper has already allegedly turned down an offer from Def Jam Records.
Mos Def released his second album, The New Danger, in 2004.
