Diddy to change his name in the U.K, pay damages to other 'Diddy'

Rapper, actor, music mogul, and fashion designer Sean "Diddy" Combs will no longer be able to go by the name "Diddy" in the U.K., after settling a lawsuit brought by a British music producer who already used that name. Combs had been sued by Richard "Diddy" Dearlove, who has been using the name since 1992.

Last year Combs, who has also been known as "Puff Daddy" and "P Diddy," dropped the "P" and began releasing music under the name "Diddy," at which point Dearlove took spent about three months unsuccessfully pleading with Combs to change the name, after which he sued.

In addition to having to use another name, Combs also will pay Dearlove damages and court expenses of about $200,000, although a final exact figure has yet to be named by the court.

"I'm really happy and relieved," Dearlove told the Guardian newspaper.

Dearlove is best known for a remix of Blondie's "Atomic."
