Rapper T.I. sets record with singles chart-topper

Rapper T.I. has set a new record for the biggest leap to the top of Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart.

His new tune, "Whatever You Like," soared 70 places to No. 1 in its third week on the list, thanks to a No. 1 opening on the Hot Digital Songs chart with 205,000 downloads.

The old record for the biggest leap to the top was held by Maroon 5's "Makes Me Wonder," which jumped 63 places in May 2007. "Whatever You Like" marks T.I.'s first No. 1 as a lead artist (he was featured on Justin Timberlake's 2006 chart-topper, "My Love").

Elsewhere on the Hot 100, Rihanna's "Disturbia" fell to No. 2 after two weeks on top. The R&B singer claimed the No. 10 spot with "Take a Bow," which was also down two places.

Chris Brown's "Forever" and Katy Perry's former champ "I Kissed a Girl" remained at Nos. 3 and 4 respectively, while Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall's "Dangerous" featuring Akon jumped two places to No. 5.

M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" held at No. 6, Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" fell two to No. 7, and Ne-Yo's "Closer" inched up one to No. 8. Pink's "So What" was the top debut at No. 9 after selling 117,000 downloads in its first week. This is the best Hot 100 opening of the pop star's career.

Also new was Metallica's "The Day That Never Comes" at No. 31. It is the rock band's first song to debut on the Hot 100 in eight years, since the prophetically-titled "I Disappear" peaked at No. 76 in June 2000. Only one Metallica single has had a higher entry point: "Until It Sleeps," the band's lone top 10 hit to date, started at No. 10 in 1996.
